What is Betelnut?
Areca is a plant which commonly referred to as betel nut. It is widely cultivated in tropical East indies, Pacific, Asia, and East Africa. It is often chewed wrapped in betel leaves. Betelnut plays a distinct part in the ancient trade. It is used as nuts nearly all over the world. The nut may be used dried, baking, roasting, or cured by boiling.
Betelnut has pharmacological properties, but little evidence support for any therapeutic purpose. It possessed 13 qualities found that is pungent, bitter, spicy, sweet, salty, astringent, etc. It is also used in a manner similar to the use of caffeine or tobacco. Chewing the nuts stimulates the appetite and the flow of saliva to aid digestion.
